TEESMUSIC  -  Richmondshire Choral Society

Richmondshire Choral Society is an amateur society with about 60-70 members.  The society gives two concerts a year, one usually on the Saturday before Christmas the other concert is in March or April.  Performances are usually given in the wonderful acoustic of St Mary’s Church, Richmond with an instrumental ensemble.

The repertoire is mainly of choral works for large ensembles but does not stick with just the ‘tried and tested’ favourites. It has a policy of performing Handel’s Messiah in Spring at not less than 4 year intervals (2009, 2013, 2017) so that it always sounds fresh and new. Its current Music Director, Edward Seymour, is also Director of Music at Ripon Grammar School and has brought some new perspectives on music to the choir since his arrival in October 2015 first as Acting MD followed by his appointment as MD in April 2016.

There is normally no audition for new members (at the Music Director’s discretion).  Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm in Richmond Methodist Church Rooms.
