The Cleveland Chamber Orchestra (CCO) is an
amateur ensemble giving 4 or 5 concerts a year in the Tees Valley area in N E England.
It was founded in 1981 by Tim Jackson (pictured above) who
remains its Director to this day. The
CCO’s policy has always been to perform a mixture of basic
repertoire and masterworks that are rarely if ever given a public performance
in the provinces, with a preference to include 20th
century works in many concert programmes. In 1993, the CCO was invited to be resident
at a music festival in Greece, where it was the accompanying orchestra in the
first performance of Mozart’s opera Così fan Tutte in Greek! The
orchestra has also worked with a number of local choirs to perform such masterworks as Beethoven’s Choral Symphony, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Bruckner’s Mass in E and Bach’s B minor Mass. In 2008, in collaboration with the Royal
Northern College, the orchestra put on two semi-staged performances of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro in Richmond. It also gives charity concerts from time
to time. The orchestra has had enormous help from
many sources, but especially over the last 15 years by its association with
David Greed, the leader of Opera North, who has
often appeared as guest conductor and soloist and helped the orchestra
improve and develop.
Membership of the CCO is by invitation. Please e-mail
the Director or ring 01748-821343 The Members' area shows
